Step 1: Generate a Backup
Start by opening the Admin Panel on your current MAWi installation. Navigate to the "Backup and Restore" section. Here, you'll find two options: "Generate a Backup" and "Restore a Backup". Choose "Generate a Backup".
You'll be prompted to enter a strong password for backup encryption. Make sure to remember this password as you'll need it when restoring the backup.
Next, decide whether you want to include all the files used by existing playlists in your backup, or if you prefer to only save the backup for Users and configurations without the playlist files. Once you've made your decision, click "Start Backups Process".
The backup process will begin and may take a few minutes depending on the amount of data that needs to be saved. Once the backup is complete, a new download tab will appear at the bottom of your browser indicating that the file has been saved. The default save location is the "Downloads" folder.
Step 2: Install MAWi on the New Hardware
Now that you have your backup file, it's time to install MAWi on your new hardware. Follow the same installation process as you did the first time.
Step 3: Restore the Backup
Once MAWi is installed on the new hardware, copy the backup file to this new system. Log in to MAWi and navigate to the Admin Panel. Go to "Backup and Restore" and select "Restore".
Click "Select the backup file from your PC". This will open a file explorer. Navigate to the location of the backup file (by default, this should be in the "Downloads" folder).
Enter the password you used to encrypt the backup file and select "Unpack File". You'll receive a warning asking if you're sure you want to restore MAWi on this hardware. Click "Yes".
Step 4: Confirm Restoration
Once the restoration process is complete, you'll receive a confirmation. Click the button "Click here to refresh". This will load MAWi with your previous settings and playlists.
And that's it! You've successfully transferred MAWi to a new PC.
